"....Since Kisame left... yes."

That got the usual frown--though after what he said really sank in the look became more wry and disbelieving. "You've got a swordsman of the Mist... you've got the swordsman of the Mist cooking dinner for you?"

[youngesthokage]

"He's actually rather good with the kitchen..." It was a murmur and he flushed slightly, sipping his tea.

[mooneye]

"...I don't buy it." He shook his head.

[youngesthokage]

he blinked at him with a curious noise.

[mooneye]

It was just too strange. Well. But all of this was strange. Finally he just shook his head. "You probably ought to be eating more than just rice."

[youngesthokage]

"I eat fruit too." He took another long sip of his tea. "And tea. That's just when I'm home though and I'm not, usually."

[mooneye]

"So... you work all the time. And when you're not working you live off of rice, fruit and tea." He gave him a look that clearly said that he was surprised he was even alive.

[youngesthokage]

"...It's easier to do that than fight the kitchen since Kisame's been gone." It was a murmur and he fidgeted, looking captivated by his tea.

[mooneye]

He gave a sputter of a laugh. "The village gives you no trouble but the kitchen is a battle..." He shook his head. "I don't eat anymore, you know. I can cook but... Well, don't worry. I'll take care of this." He would go to Aunt Mikoto, he thought. Or just run out every day and get food to bring back.

He flushed and huffed. "I can cook. I just... don't like the taste of anything I cook, and neither does anyone else."

[mooneye]

"That does not count as being able to cook, dear."

"It's never burned and the ingredients are all there, so I can't understand the problem."

"...You know, I'm beginning to suspect that it wasn't just a bodyguard Tsunade was concerned you were going without."

[youngesthokage]

"I have bodyguards. I like to call them ANBU, and I get lectured by the more overprotective ones that have the dubious title of Kohai when they can't find me lately." He nodded once. "So I just go to the office instead."

[mooneye]

"I can imagine your little habit of slipping away being very frustrating for them." He smirked.

[youngesthokage]

He laughed softly and inclined his head. "Yes. Yugao is the most vocal of the group. Then again sometimes I think she believes I'm still twelve like I was when I was made her captain."

[mooneye]

He didn't answer at first, just turned his cup around between his hands and then lifted it to drink. "You're about a decade too young for everything you do, you know."

[youngesthokage]

"Everything?" It was a murmur as he looked sideways at him.

[mooneye]

"Almost everything." He amended, raising his eyebrows.

[youngesthokage]

"Which things make you say that?"

[mooneye]

"Which things do you think?" He looked down at the table, then back up. "Hokage, baby," he said, ticking both off on his fingers.

He gave him a wan smile and moved over to sit beside him, leaning into him as he closed his eyes meditatively for a moment. "I graduated academy at seven." He opened his eyes and sipped his tea. "I made chunin at ten and was immediately taken into ANBU. I was a captain at twelve. I was declared Hokage elect at thirteen and given the title at fifteen. Over the two years he let me handle the clan matter, which... was hard, but once that was finished he slowly handed over all the power of the position. I think he would have waited if I'd failed to find the solution I had."

He shifted to put an arm around him, and listened quietly. "Very young," he commented. But then, many shinobi children were forced to grow up quickly. It was just what the world--this world--was like. And the thought that he could fix it if he wanted to came to him, the way it so often did when he thought something was sad or unfair. He could rewrite everything. Rearrange what was, what would be. Create a dream more lovely than reality.

He pushed the thought to the back of his mind, like he always did.

"Well. I'm proud of you, you know. For all of that."

"I was the youngest ANBU captain Konoha has ever had." It was a murmur, and he settled close to him. "I've had to fight tooth and nail to prove that my appointment isn't a sign that Konoha has weakened. Sometimes I wonder. I had more than half my ANBU change over when I came into office because they couldn't countenance the idea of being under my direct command so much of the time because of my age. There have been other shows of disrespect too." He paused, smirked. "But I found a solution to -that- at least."
